Birthdays & Christmas

I know I haven't been around the blog world very much lately, but I thought I'd just share this piece of wisdom my 4-year old taught me tonight. I was laying in bed comfortably with my laptop, catching up on some old October Road episodes I missed, when I noticed out of the corner of my eye the door to our bedroom move ever so slightly. And then again. And again. Until finally, over about a 5-minute time period, it was about half-way open. I took off my headphones to investigate, and sure enough, there was a precious little 4-year old laying on the floor in his blue footsie jammies...pushing the door open with his finger ever so innocently.

My natural inclination as a parent was to scold him because I had put him down to bed about an hour beforehand, and he knows the rule in our house is that he still needs to rest in his bed even if he's not sleepy. It was hard to get mad at him, though. I fell prey to his deep brown eyes that remind me so much of a big lovable puppy dog. That's one of Corinne & I's favorite things about this little guy.

Anyway, so I carried him back to his room, and as I was tucking him back into bed I asked him what was wrong - why he was laying at our door. In a very innocent voice, he replied, "I can't sleep, Drew. I keep thinking about birthdays and Christmas." That brought a big smile to my face. What a good little piece of wisdom. "I can't sleep because I keep thinking about birthdays and Christmas."

Remember the days when life was uncomplicated enough that the biggest worry keeping you up at night was that there were too many positive things to think about? Gotta love this little guy.

Oh, sweet! I wish those were my only worries :-) Good to hear from you Drew - and to know that I'm not the only one who has been watching old episodes of October Road on my laptop!

So for those of you wondering...Carter does call Drew by his name. It started about a year ago. We personally think it is hilarious and something he'll probably grow out of.

That makes me giggle. He still calls corrine mom though? The kids I teach in high school call me Robert. Us Hilton boys are so youthful I guess.
